Who we are

This privacy policy applies to the website tasmanmaritime.com, operated by Tasman Maritime Consulting — a New Zealand-registered company providing maritime compliance consulting services.

Our contact details for privacy matters:
Email: enquiries@tasmanmaritime.com
Website: https://tasmanmaritime.com

This policy applies to all visitors to tasmanmaritime.com, regardless of where you are located. It is written to comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, the Australian Privacy Act 1988, and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What information we collect and why

1. Contact form submissions

When you submit the "Book a consultation" form on this website, we collect:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number (optional)
  • Your company or vessel name (optional)
  • The message you write

Why: To respond to your enquiry and arrange a consultation. This is the only purpose for which this information is used.

How long we keep it: We retain contact form submissions for up to 12 months, or for as long as an active client relationship exists, whichever is longer. We then delete the information securely.

Who sees it: Your submission is sent directly to our principal consultant by email. It is not shared with any third party, stored in a database, or used for marketing without your explicit consent.

2. Website analytics (Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our website — which pages are visited, how long visitors spend on the site, and where traffic comes from. This helps us improve the site and understand which content is most useful.

What GA4 collects:

  • Pages viewed and time spent on each page
  • General geographic location (country/city level — not your precise location)
  • Device type, browser, and operating system
  • How you arrived at the site (search engine, direct, social media, referral)
  • Anonymised IP address (we have enabled IP anonymisation)

What GA4 does NOT collect through our site: Your name, email address, or any information that directly identifies you as an individual. We do not enable Google's advertising features, remarketing, or cross-site tracking through this website.

Cookies: GA4 uses cookies (small text files stored in your browser) to distinguish returning visitors and track sessions. These cookies do not contain personally identifiable information.

Your consent: We only activate Google Analytics after you have accepted analytics cookies via the consent banner shown on your first visit to the site. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and no data is sent to Google Analytics.

Google's privacy practices: Data collected through Google Analytics is processed by Google LLC. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months by default.

3. Server logs

Our web hosting provider (Discount Domains, New Zealand) automatically records standard server log data when you visit the site — including your IP address, the pages requested, and the time of access. This is standard practice for all websites and is retained by our hosting provider for security and operational purposes. We do not access or analyse this data unless investigating a security incident.

This website uses the following cookies:

You can also prevent Google Analytics from collecting data across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

How we protect your information

  • This website is served over HTTPS — all data transmitted between your browser and our server is encrypted
  • Contact form submissions are sent directly by email and are not stored in a web-accessible database
  • We do not store payment card information — we do not process payments through this website
  • Access to our email accounts and hosting is protected by strong passwords and, where available, two-factor authentication

Third parties we share data with

We share data with the following third parties in the normal operation of this website:

  • Google LLC — via Google Analytics, if you have accepted analytics cookies. Governed by Google's Data Processing Terms and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for international data transfers where applicable.
  • Discount Domains (NZ) — our hosting provider. Server log data is retained by them as part of standard hosting operations.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any other third party for commercial purposes.
